ADVANCED DRIVING, as agreed by the Driving Instructors´ Association (DIA), Driving Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) is defined as:
"The ability to control the position and speed of the vehicle safely, systematically and smoothly using road and traffic conditions to make reasonable progress unobtrusively, with skill and responsibility. This requires a positive but courteous attitude and a high standard of driving competence based on concentration, effective all round observation, anticipation and planning coordinated with good handling skills. The vehicle should always be at the right place on the road at the right time, traveling at the right speed with the correct gear engaged and can always be stopped safely in the distance that can be seen to be clear."
The Diamond Advanced Driving Test is widely acknowledged as the most professional of the driver assessments and is the only Government accredited advanced driver training brand in the UK, using only fully qualified and regulated trainers, assessors and examiners to deliver the programme. All Diamond trainers and examiners are widely experienced in developing drivers across the spectrum, with particular focus on your individual development needs, are professionally qualified and are all regulated by the Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). With more professional driver trainers and examiners available across the UK than any other advanced training body Diamond can match a trainer or assessor to you, wherever you are.
The Diamond advanced test is ideal for professional development, including for trainee driving instructors (PDI's) looking for a mock test instead of losing one of their three limited attempts at the Part 2 ADI Test.
An advanced test and some additional post test training can assist anyone with an interest in driving. Any member of the public is welcome to take extra training or a Diamond test, possibly for work, safety reasons or confidence. You may like to refresh your skills if you have been in an accident, returning to work after illness or after a long gap in driving.
You could be a young person who has just passed their driving test or a parent looking to improve and update their own skills before teaching a son or daughter to drive. Alternatively you could be a mature driver who has been referred by their GP or family to book some post test training or a Diamond assessment. If you decide to take the advanced test, this will cover motorway and dual carriageway driving, which will help you gain confidence on these types of roads, whilst refreshing your skills and knowledge. By driving to the advanced standard you can reduce fuel costs, insurance premiums with less chance of accident losses or losing that valuable no claims bonus.
What can I expect on the day of my advanced test? Once your Diamond test is booked you'll receive a conformation letter giving you details regarding the test. Your nominated examiner will make arrangements with you to meet at a mutually convenient place, local to you. The Diamond advanced test lasts 60 minutes and covers a variety of roads including motorways and rural roads. You'll be expected to do at least two reversing exercises, demonstrate eco safe driving and might be asked to do the emergency stop. A pass will be awarded if you achieve no serious or dangerous faults and you do not exceed 6 driver faults.

Check out this review from Group Captain David Wardill, RAF:
"A most enjoyable, constructive and helpful experience. It was most useful to be reminded of the little lapses which have emerged during some seventy years of extensive driving and riding. I believe that participation would be beneficial for almost all ageing drivers with an open mind, and would thoroughly recommend it to friends. Anthony Fuller conducted the drive in a most pleasant and helpful manner; clearly highly qualified and widely experienced, he missed nothing! Very highly recommended".
